Abrasives | Garnet

We provide Garnet, a class of silicate minerals that have been utilized as abrasives in a number of industrial and pre-industrial production processes. On the Mohs Scale, it has a hardness of 7, making it incredibly durable for industrial applications.

Our Garnet variants are available in a wide range of hues, including red, orange, yellow, green, purple, and even black, but the ones with a reddish tint are the most popular. Garnet is an environmentally friendly abrasive which belongs to the gem family. Among the Gem family we deal with Almandine Garnet which is the heaviest and hardest of all the Garnets. Thus, while blasting we can achieve an optimum surface profile with low dust emission. Also, our Garnet has high abrasion index with proportionate ratio of required particle size which suits best for waterjet cutting applications.

We deal with two variants of Garnet of Indian origin:

IREL OSCOM / MK Garnet

The only permitted exporter of beach sand minerals from India is IREL INDIA LTD, a government entity in India. IREL is the biggest producer of beach sand minerals from India. Galaxy Minerals is proud to inform that we have a direct allotment for IREL’s OSCOM & MK Garnet (Beach Garnet) from India, which is produced by IREL themselves.

We process IREL’s OSCOM Garnet in our authorized processing facility in Odisha, India, (UNIT 1) in accordance with customer specifications prior exporting it via IREL.

We provide the following IREL GARNET Mesh Sizes:

Applications

The Coarser Grades of Abrasive Garnet that are Used for Water Filtration are

  • Mesh 1-12
  • Mesh 12-24

In contrary to other grades, the Garnet in these grades has a harsh or rough texture that facilitates in efficient water filtration in commercial processes. By passing the fluid through a multilayer filter made of abrasive sand beds, towered with a layer of gravel, and perhaps layers of activated or anthracite carbon for fluid transparency and drainage, suspended materials floating in the fluid are removed.

The medium coarse grades are most frequently used for sandblasting.

  • Mesh 20-40
  • Mesh 30-60

A pressured abrasive jet used in sandblasting causes the deeper area of a material to be degraded through abrasion. The most common usage is for cleaning the surface of metals, but additional applications include carving pictures on marble, stones, and tiles.

The finer grades of garnet sand are utilized for Waterjet.

  • Mesh 80
  • Mesh 120

Extremely hard materials can be sliced without creating heat by adding the abrasive Garnet to the water jet process. This technology is characterized by a high level of precision, quick setup times, and rapid cutting rates.
